Tkibuli, located in the Imereti region of western Georgia, has a rich history dating back to medieval times. First mentioned between 1259 and 1293, it was under the control of the noble Agiashvili family during the feudal period. In the late 19th century, Tkibuli transitioned from a small settlement to an industrial hub with the development of coal mining. Officially designated as a city in 1939, Tkibuli remains known for its coal industry, despite significant changes over time.
