TSKHRAJVARI

Tsikhrajvari (Nine Crosses) - St. Georges Sanctuary
Located approximately 1500 meters above sea level, near the Nakerala Pass, atop a mountain overlooking Tkibuli in the Imereti region.
Every year, on the last Saturday of May, a celebration called Tsikhrajvari is held in Imereti, particularly in Tkibuli Municipality and its surrounding villages. A unique cave has also been discovered near the Tsikhrajvari sanctuary.
Tsikhrajvari is situated at the Nakerala Pass, along the Tkibuli-Ambrolauri road. The distance from the Nakerala Pass to Tsikhrajvari is 3 km, followed by a moderately challenging hiking trail.

TSKALTSITELA GORGE

The Tskaltsitela Gorge is located at an altitude of 130-200 meters above sea level and is covered with Colchic forest. When the river swells, it washes away red soil rocks along its course, giving the water a reddish hue.

The gorge is further enriched by cultural and historical monuments, including the Gelati Monastery Complex and the Motsameta Monastery. The river is home to various fish species such as trout, barbel, chub, roach, carp, and others. The riverbanks are inhabited by otters and nutrias. During winter, you can also spot waterfowl in the area.

The Tskaltsitela Gorge Nature Monument is one of the most diverse and fascinating places in Imereti, known for both its natural beauty and significant cultural landmarks.

Dzmuisi Canyon Nature

This 3.5 km long canyon starts with a 25-meter waterfall. After passing through the canyon, a cascade of
waterfalls of various heights flows from the cliffs. The first waterfall is at an elevation of 1200 meters above sea level, while the last one descends from 600 meters. The upper waterfall spreads wide before narrowing towards the end, making it an ideal spot for extreme adventurers. However, descending from here requires a certified guide and special equipment, a journey that takes about 4 hours.

Gelati Monastery

The Gelati Monastery is a Georgian architectural complex and one of the most important cultural centers of medieval Georgia. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a monument of national importance in Georgia. The Gelati Monastery complex is located northeast of Kutaisi, in the Tskaltsitela River Gorge. It was founded in 1106 by King David IV the Builder. The monastery is surrounded by a defensive wall and includes buildings from various periods (primarily from the 12th-13th centuries). The name "Gelati" may derive from the name of one of the gates of Jerusalem, "Gennat".
